Richmond County Schools
With an annual operating budget of approximately $249 million, the Richmond County Board of Education operates 60 schools for 33,030 students including eight high schools, nine middle schools, 35 elementary schools, three magnet schools, three special schools and two charter schools.
Graduation rates have improved to 69.5 percent and 70.2 percent of Richmond County Schools met Adequate Yearly Progress standards. The system offers supplemental academic support to students who are achieving below standard. The graduation rate is 66.3 percent.
The school board employs 2,735 certified teachers and 2,219 non-certified personnel and transports approximately 22,000 students each day. The system serves about 14,500 breakfasts, around 25,000 lunches and about 2,400 snacks each day.
The school system has formed a partnership in collaboration with local city and government officials and businesses who understand that our community is dependent upon good schools. It has also implemented the i-Parent program, a web based program for parents to receive electronic access to student grades and allow them to follow the student’s progress.

Magnet Schools
The Richmond County Board of Education operates three highly-regarded magnet schools and a special International Baccalaureate Programme.
A.R. Johnson is a health science and engineering magnet school for grades 9-12. C.T. Walker is a traditional magnet school with programs for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.
John S. Davidson is a fine arts magnet school and was recognized as the No. 1 School in Georgia consecutively from 1996 through 2003. Davidson has also been recognized for having the top SAT score in Georgia for the last 10 years and was ranked highest for excellence among all magnet schools by the U.S. Department of Education for academic focus and the integration of fine arts.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at the Academy of Richmond County is a rigorous college preparatory course of study for highly motivated high school students. The program features a comprehensive curriculum that contains both breadth and depth in its focus. The IB program of studies provides students of various linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds with the intellectual, social, critical thinking skills, and perspective necessary for the adult world.
